I was hoping to hold on to all those sweet Indy memories by making our Indy weekend blog last so long. We'll end the series on the highest note- Race Day! Thanks to Manga, Granny, and Aunt Becky for the amazing babysitting service at the "Turn 5 babysitting." Another amazing year and tonight I would like to share Justin's response to my asking today's date, "June 29th. Only 11 more months until Indy!"

Good Times...
When I was young,we never went to the race.My Dad would park cars in the yard and as the race start got closer we would stand at the end of the driveway...to watch the balloons rise(signaling the start) and to listen to the engines roar.It was always a fun day.
Then I started going to the race with Gary.We would pack the kids up for the walk to Mamaw's house.Or,as they got older,we would park cars and then head to the track. We would sit with our group...and I would get goosebumps watching the balloons rise and the cars roarpast on that first lap. It was always a fun day.
For the last 2 race days I have parked cars in the same yard as years past(what a great group of folks that return every year!).Then stood at the end of the driveway to watch the balloons rise...and listened for the roar of the engines on the first lap....and watched the excited faces of the next generations of Indy race fans...It was a fun day (and brings back wonderful memories of life at 16th and Winton)

Ok, so your guys are going to make me cry... I have tears in my eyes. I too love the Indy weekend, and any time we get to spend together as a family. It's a very special time of the year, and many great memories... I love you guys (all of you), and have enjoyed all the Indy blogs.

Shannon, your blog has captured 2010 Race Weekend so very well from the youngest to Granny! The Toms 4 could tell so many memories of 16th & Winton. The cars use to line up in front overnight to go into the track. Papaw Buddy could get more cars in the yard than Lisa & I do (but so far we have not lost anyone's keys)! Can you believe we really moved to the basement (current bike storage room) every year for the whole month of May, so that the mechanics could rent our den & bedroom!! Where was our closet? Homer & Jean were our extended family! And today we have Tim, Steve, Rob, Damon, Big Mike...all the boys we love as family. The Indy go cart. RVs in the backyard. Recalling the years Jenna & Garrett were just the age of Dreyton, Carter, & Rebecca and we would walk to Mamaw Rossetters for her turn at childcare. Years of parades. Finally all the cousins as kids were together in Turn 3, as they are again today. As the twins exclaimed all afternoon - Race Day! Way too many traditions to name them all but once a Speedway Sparkplug, always ready to be Back Home Again in Indiana! xo Aunt B
