Valentine's Day 2009- The kids finally cut their first bottom teeth. Bye-bye big gummy grins!
Valentine's Day 2010- Learning to sort cars by types
Valentine's Day 2011- Potty training! Carter finally decided to pee in the potty on Saturday so Justin rolled with it and the kids have yet to look back! I have to attribute her sudden interest to her friend Aslynn Williams. We went to Winter Park to meet up with Williams family for swimming and skiing and Carter was enamored by her little friend. Thanks Aslynn!

Potty time!

I must admit that potty training has provided more laughs in a single morning than I've had in the past week. Here are some highlights from our morning.
Dre decided to poo in the froggy potty all by himself and once we did the big hoorah and dances to celebrate I realized he had peed all over the floor. Mmmmm. He decided to poo again and I realized why it was such a mess, he poos standing up! I guess that's how they do it in a diaper so why not just hover over that potty right? We're going to get a portable seat to place on the big potty and see if this helps. Any advice would be welcome!
Dre also decided to pee standing up like Daddy and pulled his stool right up to the toilet and did his business. I can tell you that not even a drop made it in the toilet despite his efforts to point down. We may need to keep those Chlorox wipes handy!
Carter likes to dress and undress herself and this also pertains to underwear. She chose a pair of Dre's Thomas the Train underpants and put them on backwards. When I tried to change them she said, "No mama, Thomas in the front!" You can't blame her, all the pictures are on the back!
The kids get 2 M&M's after they pee so when they were waiting for their treats and reaching in the bag I told them, "Let Mommy get them for you, your hands are dirty." They both flipped their hands over and looked at their palms for 2 seconds and just reached right back in. Apparently there was no visible dirt so why not! You have been forewarned if you're taking our M&M's!
The kids insist on emptying the frog potty into the big potty by themselves as I hold my breath and pray that the deposit will not end up on the floor! A wise woman once told me, "If a mess takes under 10 minutes to clean up, then why worry! Your job is to raise a happy child." And the proud smile must mean they're happy kiddos.
I'm sure mother nature will thank us once we have eliminated diapers from our weekly trash pile! We haven't made it out of the house so I'm sure there are many more laughs to come...

Shannon, I love reading your blogs and love hearing about Dre and Carter's daily adventures! I am SO proud of them for using the potty, that's a big step! Dre pooing while standing is hilarious!!! I can picture it so clear in my mind, and it makes perfect sense to him! Also, it makes perfect sense that Carter wants to wear the picture in the front!
Happy Valentines Day

Yay Carter and Dre! Isn't this such an interesting time? Definitely a lot of trial and error. I will say Aslynn likes the elmo potty that goes on the potty (or carters new necklace) better than the little floor potty. She did start out on the little potty though, but changed pretty quickly. AND, GOOD LUCK!
