A Day in the Life of Carter & Dreyton

Since the NICU has been such a learning experience for Shannon and I, we thought it would be nice for everyone to learn what Carter and Dreyton are experiencing in the NICU. First of all they are spoiled (and deserved to be so), as they have their own suite/wing the Rossetter Wing. This room is a 8x10 that they share together, but not sharing a bassinet. The twins also have their own nurse who checks on them and awakes them every 3 hours for check ups, shots, blood sugar levels, temperature, and feeding. This is where Mom and Dad get to jump in, as we take their temperature (97.7-98.7 is good, change their diapers, and redress them if needed. At this point, one of their personal nurses steps in and pricks their little heel to get a blood sugar count, currently 50+ is good. If they score 50 or better the nurse then decreases their IV by one. Carter is currently at 9.5 and Dreyton his IV free!!!!! He was soooo happy to get that out of his hand and may be getting to leave the NICU Wednesday or Thursday. Last is the feeding, if Shannon or I are present we get to feed them up to 40 ml. They then fall asleep as cute as ever in our laps as we attempt to get one little burp out of them. Carter and Dreyton fall fast asleep and the whole process is repeated in about 2 more hours.
