Parenthood- What a gift!

In a few days the kids will be 17 months old, which Justin and I agree is way out of "baby" age. My aunt Kathy always says that you can't begin to know love until you've had children-how true! We are so blessed with daily giggles, mischievous smiles, many hold-your-breath moments, and lots of snuggles and kisses.

Here's a summary of what the Dreyton is "up to" at 17 months

Trying so hard to talk! Here are a few of his "words"
"k" = truck. Of course everything larger than a car falls under this category. Which brings us to...
"c"= car. Trust me, there's a difference
"shhh" = shoes. He will point out all shoes
"ccceeee" = juice. He adds the sign for juice to help us since it sounds like his word for shoes
"nana" = banana. He usually just likes to show you that he knows the word and denies any banana offering 50% of the time
"wo-wo" =yellow
"nit-naw"= night-night

Hey still signs more than he can speak which decreases the pointing and grunting somewhat. The look of determination on his face while he's trying to talk is priceless.

Dre is quite the climber and will climb just about anything that's off the ground.

We call him "pokey" since he takes twice as long as Carter to walk anywhere because he has to touch and look at everything we walk past.

He is in love with Junior Mints and suckers and will say "mmmm" when he sees either one.

The obsession with cooking is still going strong and we hope someday he'll be making us gourmet meals.

He's the less social one and prefers to sit and read his books when there's a lot going on. He is very patient and will flip page by page.

He loves to run through the house saying "Go, go, go" especially at night when Justin is chasing after him.

He will stick his tongue out at you and honk your nose when you least expect it.

What joy you bring to our lives Dreyton!

Thank you for sharing what almost 17 month old Dreyton is up to ! I will never forget sitting at the dinner table with sweet Dreyton this summer...only to be the victim of him sticking his tongue out at me! He is so adorable!
What I am always amazed at is his balancing ability---he is tempted to stand on or in the most unlikely things!
Bless both of you, Shannon and Justin, for sharing Dreyton and Carter through this blog. It brings us so many smiles everyday!
love you all

Dre - You are such a special
"great" nephew, all sweet boy with a touch of Daddy & Mommy. Trucks & cars, remembering how Justin knew every make of car as it zoomed past Gran's porch. And he loved the loud garbage truck! Patience & determination, as in Shannon's bike adventures. (& your jt. mints love from Grandpa Gary!) You are so easy to love, & we sure do! xo Aunt Becky & the Buckeyes...
